This week at Joy HQ, as our third (and hopefully final!) lockdown drags on, the conversation turned to some classic childhood movies we would love to re-watch… and it might just help pass the time! Long before the time of video games and the internet, this was a time where cinema was booming and as a result it became a much-loved form of childhood entertainment. It is really quite incredible to compare the movie's we all grew up watching to the ones made nowadays but we think their nostalgic quality will always have unique an appeal to us... plus there's nothing quite like a trip down memory lane.
We thought we’d share our favourites with all of you so we can all go and joyfully reminisce together as this selection will hopefully bring you just as much joy as Sarah Haran bags do!
Annie
This adorably nostalgic movie is top of our watch-list, from her iconic red curly locks to her cheeky yet intriguingly positive attitude, it is easy to see why we all admired Annie’s character.
The movie is set in the dour depression era of the 1930s where Annie, a spirited young orphan, lives in a wretched orphanage run by the cruel and uncaring Miss Hannigan. However, her luck turns up when billionaire “Daddy” Warbucks makes an appearance and the pair quickly make a heart-warming bond.
A favourite of ours for it’s truly wonderfully uplifting story line, colour, dance and music…. a great mid-lockdown pick-me-up. We might even be inspired to make our own version of the feature song: “You’re Never Fully Dressed without a…. BAG”! A song we’re sure would resonate with our love of Sarah Haran bags.
We created this little Annie themed Jasmine bundle around her iconic outfit for some creative inspiration for your next purchase!
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
The musical follows the fantastical journey of a family after they acquire what they assume is an ordinary yet charming old Gran Prix race car, who is affectionately named Chitty Chitty Bang Bang due to the range of wild noises he makes once he’s fired up.
Chitty is the obvious star of the film with his range of magically whacky features that save the family time and time again on their journey to save their Grandpa from the fictional country of “Vulgaria”; meeting comically unintelligent spies, O.T.T barons and baroness and of course the terrifyingly memorable Child Catcher along their way.
During the turning point of the film, where the children are lured into the Child Catcher’s cage using an array of sweet treats, we couldn’t help but think of all the candy-coloured bags and accessories from Sarah Haran to distract us from the horrifying child catcher.
Here’s a Dahlia and Jade Cardholder combination thats 'Truly Scrumptious' (no horrifying villains included!)
Mary Poppins
Set in the Edwardian times, an ordinary bored English family hires a nonsensical nanny who has a rather magical way of doing her job and manages to teach the well-to-do family how to let their hair down and enjoy themselves. This movie has a well-known host of musical numbers to sing-a-long to and with a story full of comedy and enchanted it’s a “SHooper- cala fragilistic expialidocious” family favourite.
We think the Poppy would suit Marry Poppins wonderfully, with bags of room and it’s multifunctional (almost magical) nature. Poppy would be sure to keep all her tricks perfectly organised and safe on her adventures.
Sound Of Music
Maria is a free-spirited young nun who doesn’t fit in well with strict convent life and as a result is sent to govern seven unruly children whose father, Captain Von Trapp, is in need of some help. He’s a widower with quite a stern exterior, but Maria brings music and joy into the home and it doesn’t take long for everyone in the family (including the Captain) to fall in love with her.
This classic has not only survived but thrived since its release in 1965. We think this has a lot to do with Julie Andrews’ stunning performance as Maria. You only have to watch the opening ten minutes to see her in full swing for the spectacularly beautiful, alpine lined, opening of “The Hills are Alive”. A touching romance that definitely had us all wishing for our own brooding Austrian Captain.
Inspired by Maria's lullaby “My favourite things” we’re sharing everyone’s favourite things from Sarah Haran too (even if they aren’t quite raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens!) Our newest design, Fern, has been incredibly popular since its announcement so be sure to join our VIP club and reserve one on our website to get the bag complimentary when you spend over £575 this Quarter.
